What is Play Therapy?
Play therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which a child plays in a protected and structured environment with games and toys provided by a therapist, who observes the behavior, affect, and conversation of the child to gain insight into thoughts, feelings, and fantasies. As conflicts are discovered, the therapist often helps the child understand and work through them (Mosby's Medical Dictionary, 8th edition. © 2009, Elsevier).
Many of the toys carried at Anna's Toy Depot are the same kinds of play therapy toys used in the play therapy playroom. Since 1994 I have been exhibiting and selling toys to psychotherapists who work primarily with children and families. Many of the toys carried at Anna's Toy Depot enable pretend play that is full of role playing and self expression.
I have regularly exhibited at the Texas Play Therapy conference hosted by the Texas Association for Play Therapy (TAPT). I have also exhibited at the Association for Play Therapy (APT) International Play Therapy Conference in San Fransisco, Chicago, Orlando, Baltimore, and Denver. Much of my online store is dedicated to this market of therapeutic play. Please enjoy viewing the items I have available... from dress-up toys to popping Martians to classic kids' toys. I have tons of play therapy toys to fill a playroom.
